GED/HS Diploma - Basic Skills
GED, High School Diploma, Basic Skills studentsThe Developmental Skills Lab is located in Room 116 on the 1st floor of the Garfield Campus. It offers a self-paced program for enhancing your basic skills, preparing for the GED (General Education Development), or completing your high school diploma. It provides computer-aided instruction, one-to-one tutoring, small group instruction, and individualized curriculum. The Developmental Skills Lab offers basic skills instruction in reading, writing, and math (computation and problem solving skills).

Welcome to the Developmental Skills Lab. Returning to school as an adult is not easy, especially when you have many responsibilities such as family, child care, work, and transportation. However, you are not alone in your efforts. The instructors and staff in the Developmental Skills Lab are here to help you in reaching your goals. Our GED Test Preparation, High School Diploma, and Basic Skills programs are specifically designed for adult students who study at their own pace. We wish you success and hope you find your experience with us both supportive and rewarding.

GED (General Education Development Test)
The GED tests give you the opportunity to earn a high school equivalency diploma. The GED tests are five tests in the areas of Writing, Social Studies, Reading, Science, and Mathematics. The Developmental Skills Lab offers GED preparation classes.

You are eligible to take the tests if you are not enrolled in, and have not graduated from high school, and you are 18 or older (or within 60 days of your18th birth date at the time of testing) and are a current resident of California. Applicants must register in person and present current photo identification (including examinee's name, date of birth, address, and signature) at the time of registration, and again at testing. Tests are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning on the first day of registration, and ending when the test has reached maximum enrollment. A non-refundable testing fee of $100 (cash, certified money order, or cashier's check) is due at the time of registration.
