The Garfield Campus offers academic counseling to noncredit adult
education students. The counselor works with High School Diploma
and GED students, Rehabilitation students, ESL students and
California Training Benefits recipients. The academic counselors
provide the following services: transcript evaluation and
advisement for GED and High School Diploma students, counseling
for noncredit adult education students who want to transition to
credit programs, and counseling to students receiving benefits and
services through the Employment Development Department (EDD) and
the Department of Rehabilitation. Academic Counseling also
provides classroom presentations (on both noncredit and credit
programs and services going to Credit workshops, and Main Campus
tours.) Students must make an appointment to see an academic
counselor.

CTB
The Garfield Campus is an approved California Training
Benefits (CTB) provider. Unemployment Insurance recipients can
obtain training/classes (with approval from the State of
California, Employment Development Department) and still receive
their unemployment insurance through Employment Development

Career Resource Center
The Career Resource Center provides assistance
in the following areas: transferring to the main campus; choosing
credit/non-credit classes to improve skills; applying for
financial aid; career assessment; developing resumes and cover
letters; filling out job application forms; preparing for job
interviews; Internet/job search assistance; researching careers
and schools; related fax and telephone services. The Career

The Garfield Campus offers childcare for noncredit students
who have 3 to 5 year old children who are potty trained. Please

CalWORKs
The California Work Opportunities and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs)
program is a Welfare-to-Work Program enacted to assist students
who are currently welfare recipients or who are in transition off
of welfare to achieve long-term self-sufficiency through
coordinated student services. The CalWORKs program facilitates the
provision of supportive services that families are eligible for by
collaborating with local county welfare departments. In addition
to receiving cash aid, some of the other benefits available may
include funds for books, supplies, transportation, clothing, and
housing as well as referral for domestic violence, substance
abuse, and mental health.
The CalWORKs program is committed to help the community obtain the
education and training needed to build basic job skills or upgrade
transferable skills for those seeking immediate employment. The
Garfield Campus offers classes and training that qualify as
Welfare-to-Work activities. These include adult basic education
classes, GED and high school diploma, business classes, job
readiness classes, ESL classes, and computer classes. Other
additional services available include job training, on-site
childcare, job development, job placement, and counseling. Call

Citizenship
The Garfield Campus offers
English as a Second Language Citizenship classes for those who
want to learn more about the history and government of the USA and
prepare for their oral interview. The Citizenship Center itself is
located in Room 105 on the Garfield Campus and offers information
regarding citizenship eligibility, application procedures
and deadlines; legal referrals; INS forms needed for
naturalization; photographs for INS application or passport;
typing and preparation of the INS 400 form; and assistance in

Community Services Education
Community Services Education is
a program of non-credit, fee-based classes and activities designed
to serve individuals with educational goals that do not require
college credit. There are no transcripts, grades or academic
requirements. (Some certificate
programs require prerequisites.) The classes are usually shorter
than credit classes and normally do not require lengthy

Workforce Investment Act
The Workforce Investment
Act (WIA) is a federal program that replaces the Job Training
Partnership Act (JTPA) program. To qualify for this training
program, you must meet federal standards regarding your unemployment
status. To be enrolled in a training program, applicants must be
assessed at a local One-Stop Center. The One-Stop in Glendale is the
Verdugo Job Center, 1255 S. Central Avenue, Glendale, 91206; Phone:
(818) 409-0476 x7308. If eligible, students will be given a voucher
to receive training services at the Garfield Campus.
The types of training
certificates offered include Accounting Clerk I and II, General
Office Clerk II and III, Dental Front Office Clerk, and Medical
Front Office Clerk. Certificate programs are provided in structured
classroom environments offering one-to-one instruction from
credentialed instructors as well as individual lab hours. Training
time ranges from 24 to 41 weeks, depending upon the skills training
needed in their field of study. Those needing HS diploma or GED may
enroll in these programs concurrently. This program costs $5,000 and
includes books, supplies, and individualized services. Call the
