Getting Started at Glendale College

Congratulations, and welcome to Glendale College!  Here are the steps you will need to follow.

1.  Submit your completed GCC application.  There are two ways to do this:  You can apply In person, with a paper application at the Office of Admissions and Records, located in the     Administration Building, 1st floor.  You can also apply online, by clicking http://www.glendale.edu/AR/application.htm  and completing the instructions.

2.  Take the assessment tests in the San Fernando Complex, SF 112.  These tests identify your skill levels in English, Math, ESL and/or Chemistry. Test scores may meet prerequisites for certain courses and will help your counselor in recommending the most appropriate classes for you to take.

3.  Make an appointment to meet with a CSD counselor by stopping in the CSD offices on the 2nd floor of San Rafael, or by calling (818) 240-1000, ext. 5905.

4.  Register with CSD by completing the registration form.

5.  Register for classes.

Meeting with your CSD Counselor

Please bring with you any documents you have that might help the counselor qualify you for services from the CSD.  These may include:

  • your completed CSD registration form

  • transcripts

  • transition portfolio

  • Verification of Disability (VOD) or high school Individualized Educational Plan (IEP)

Verification of Disability

Your VOD may be an IEP, a letter from your doctor or psychiatrist, or a completed form from a Learning Disability Specialist or Educational Psychologist.  In order to be valid, your VOD must meet these criteria:

  • it must be current

  • it must be completed by a qualified professional

  • it must describe your disability, how it limits your educational performance, and appropriate accommodations.

If you do not have a valid VOD, your counselor will outline possible steps for obtaining one.

Registering for Classes

  • Begin to form your educational goals by reviewing the latest GCC College Catalog.  Within your first year, you will need to decide if you want to complete a certificate program, complete your AA or AS degree, or transfer to a 4-year college.

  • Review the Schedule of Classes.  They are available in the administration building or online.

  • Based on your assessment test results and your educational goals, select classes you want to take and develop  your class schedule.

  • Meet with your CSD counselor to have your schedule approved.

  • Follow the directions in the Schedule of Classes to register by phone, or register online by clicking here.
