REGISTRATION, ATTENDANCE, GPA, ONLINE CLASSES, AND COURSE LOAD
Registration and Attendance: You must register for classes and attend the school indicated on your SEVIS I-20 form. You must register for all normal school terms (Fall and Spring semesters at GCC); summer and winter terms are optional, unless your I-20 indicates that you are to begin your studies during one of these terms.
Grade Point Average: You must maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher.
Online Classes: No more than the equivalent of 3 unit one online/distance education class per session may be counted towards the full course of study requirement.
Course Load: You must register in and successfully complete a minimum of 12 units of classes each Fall and Spring semester, and make normal progress toward completing the course of study by maintaining a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher. A “W” (Withdrawal) notation on your transcripts does not count toward the units required to maintain full-time status. Registration in the Summer and Winter session is optional for continuing students and only required for new students who are admitted and issued a Summer/Winter session I-20. In such case, you must register in and successfully complete at least one course of 3 units during the Summer/Winter session to maintain full-time status. New Summer session students must complete the Fall semester and new Winter session students must complete the Spring semester to satisfy the requirement of completing a full term.
*Remember, you must have approval from an Academic Counselor and an Immigration Advisor BEFORE you may take less than 12 units. A student who drops below a full course of study without prior approval will be considered "out of status" and reported as such to SEVIS.
