Glendale started off their first league match betting the Bakersfield Renegades in tough 4 hour match. The Vaqueros started off strong with wins from Dat Le winning 6-3, 6-3 and Santiago Segovia winning 6-2, 6-4. The Renegades made a strong comeback taking singles points at 2,3 and 5 with only number 1 singles being the last match to finish with Hosep Orojian finishing 5-7, 6-2, 6-3. “He played pretty good in that match” said Orojian. “In the first set he played out of his mind taking the first”. “I felt good with the way I was playing and just stayed focused and I know I could still win the match”.
Going into doubles the Vaqueros split the singles points 3-3 with the Vaqueros needing two points to win the match. The Vaqueros saw their first point come from number 3 doubles with Pauff and Braun winning 8-1 in doubles. The Vaqueros would receive the winning point from number 2 doubles Demegerdichian and Simonyan winning 8-3 to receive the 5th point clinching the match for the Vaqueros. The Vaqueros would go on and win number 1 doubles with Le and Orojian 8-5 to finish the match 6-3 against the Renegades. “This was a dominant performance and an overall great day at Bakersfield,” Vaqueros Coach Bob MacKay said. “Our effort really paid off in doubles.” “I told the guys before the match that if we don’t win, it’s going to be a real long ride home, so we might as well win.”
