International Student Scholarship Program

The John A. Davitt President ’s Scholarship for International Students
(Designed for New International Students;F-1 visa category)

Background: The "John A. Davitt President ’s Scholarship for International Students " is named in honor of the current President of Glendale Community College, Dr. John A. Davitt. President Davitt has served the Glendale College district with distinction for over 30 years as Administrative Dean, Vice President, and since 1985,as Superintendent and President. During Dr.Davitt’s tenure at Glendale, the College has demonstrated a firm commitment to servicing international students, while expanding global education programs for the campus community. It is through the dedication, vision and generosity of Dr. Davitt and the President ’s Administrative Cabinet, that we are pleased to offer this scholarship program for deserving international students —who will begin their higher education studies at Glendale Community College.

Criteria and eligibility: Only new international student applicants (F-1 visa category) will be considered as potential candidates for the above President ’s Scholarship. International students currently enrolled at Glendale College should contact the Scholarship Office for scholarship programs for continuing students.

The following criteria will be used by the International Admissions Committee to select students for the award:

  • Academic merit and financial need (to include student ’s grade point average: ideally 2.5 or higher on the U.S.4.0 scale).
  • Student ’s overall background and country of origin.
  • English language ability (such as TOEFL results, "O Levels," IELTS exam,etc.).
  • Student ’s personal essay statement.

Scholarship terms:

  • 10 President ’s Scholarships will be awarded for the Fall Semester (September); and 10 scholar-ships will be awarded for the Spring Semester (February); for a total of 20 scholarship awards for the academic year. Summer &Winter sessions are excluded.
  • The President ’s Scholarship awards will be granted as partial tuition scholarships of $1,000 for the academic year (two semesters). They will be allocated at $500 per semester towards tuition expenses, for full-time enrollment (12 units) each semester.
  • Scholarship recipients must maintain satisfactory academic and immigration status with the College and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 during their degree program.
  • The awards will be renewable each year,with a maximum of two years eligibility.
  • Deadlines for applying are the dates stated on the International Application Form.

Please keep in mind that this scholarship statement is in addition to the "Personal Statement "included as part of the regular Glendale College International Application for Admission form. You will need to submit both statements to complete the scholarship and regular application process. It is recommended that you include this scholarship statement with your other application materials when applying for admission.
