The Pride Center is located within the Multicultural & Community Engagement Center (MCEC) in Sierra Madre (SM) 267 (next to the cafeteria on the second floor).

The Pride Center aims to provide a secure, supportive, and accepting environment for students across all gender and sexual identities including those that identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ+), and their allies. The Pride Center is a safe space designed to bring awareness of diverse sexual and gender identities, healthy masculinity, affirmative consent, and upstanding to prevent violence. We strive to recognize the complexities of intersectionality and encourage the exploration of both privilege and oppression across coexisting identities. Although the Pride Center welcomes people across all gender and sexual identities, it is above all a safe space for students that identify as LGBTQ+ and their allies. Ultimately, the Pride Center aims to create and promote a culture of acceptance.

The Pride Center provides weekly group meetings and leadership development training where students can learn about topics related to diverse sexual and gender identities and where they can have the opportunity to share their experiences. The Pride Center also supports the academic and personal development of students that identify as LGBTQ+ by providing a safe space in which they can study, chat, and find commonality in their experiences.

1. Gender Norms: Understand how social norms uphold a gendered culture and practice behaviors that would allow an inclusive environment and promote a culture of respect.
2. Peer Group: A safe space in which students can learn about current trends impacting the LGBTQ+ community and have the option to share personal experiences. This will be led by a seasoned college counselor.
3. Affirmative Consent: Learn how to create a safer environment for sexual engagement and reduce the likelihood of sexual assault and violence allegations.
4. Upstander Intervention: Understand the many ways in which students can practice the courage and skills to become an active bystander.

1. Students will be able to define and explain gender pronouns and its importance, rape culture and its prevalence, affirmative consent and how to obtain it, and their unique ways of becoming upstanders to create a culture of acceptance and safety.
2. Students will have an increased awareness of the unique challenges of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies.
3. Students will be able to define and explain what it means to be an ally and their role as such.
4. Students will have an increased awareness of privilege, oppression, and healthy masculinity and the ways in which they can create more inclusive environments.
5. Students will have acquired tools to become an upstander and to foster community involvement in the prevention of discrimination, sexual assault and violence.

1. Confidentiality

   a.   Everything shared in the center will remain private and stay within the center.           * Limits to confidentiality: If you were to share that you were thinking of harming yourself or someone else, or that a child, an elder or a dependent adult was being abused or that you were doing something or planning to do something extremely dangerous, we would be legally obligated to tell whoever was necessary in order to keep you and others safe.

   3. Rape and violence are realities for all sexual orientations and gender identities and all are welcome to share their experiences. 
3. Respect
   1. When others are speaking, quietly listen. Do not be on your phone or social media. Give your full attention. 
4. Judgement Free
   1. Use “I” perspectives and do not label others.
   2. Give others the benefit of the doubt and seek clarification
