Hello and welcome to the Credit ESL Homepage.  Credit ESL offers five levels of grammar and writing, five levels of listening and speaking, four levels of reading, and two levels of spelling classes.

Here at GCC, students need to take the Credit ESL Self-Placement Survey.  The results of this test will place you into the appropriate levels in Credit ESL courses.

You can reach the Division Chair, Zohara Kaye, via email at zkaye@glendale.edu or by phone at (818) 240-1000 ext. 5510 and the Administrative Assistant, Luisa Salazar, at lsalazar@glendale.edu or by phone at (818) 240-1000 ext. 5511.

You can look at our current courses in the Class Schedule. If you have any questions, you can e-mail me at: zkaye@glendale.edu

If you’re interested in becoming a Glendale College International Student (F-1 Visa), please contact the International Student Office at: gcciso@glendale.edu, or (818) 240-1000 ext. 6645. Professor Kaye
Chair, Credit English as a Second Language (ESL) Division

The mission of the Credit English as a Second Language (ESL) Division is to prepare and empower non-native English language learners to succeed in achieving their academic and personal goals. Our students improve their academic English skills in grammar & writing, reading & vocabulary, and listening & speaking.  Students are introduced to cultural knowledge, U.S. cultural and college norms, principles of academic integrity, and global awareness. Students develop critical thinking skills as they learn to use English to read, write, listen, understand, debate, and express themselves clearly and concisely to others.  Our Certificates of Achievement Program in Intermediate and Advanced ESL introduce students to various degree and career pathways through introductory course content from other disciplines.

To help you start, review the Grammar & Writing Guide for Student Placement. After you apply to the college and receive a student ID number, you can take the Credit ESL Self Placement Survey (SPS). It is not a test. It is a guide that will help you decide which level is the best for you. Choosing the right level will increase your chances of success. Follow the instructions carefully. After you choose your level, you will talk to a counselor and discuss your choices. To take the Credit ESL SPS, go to MyGCC>Other Services>my Credit ESL SPS.  Here is a short video and a handout (pdf) to help you access the SPS.

Information on the handout informs students how to access the SPS option:

Step 1:
Go to www.glendale.edu and Login to MyGCC

Step 2:  From your Student Homepage, click on
“Other Services”

Step 3: From Other Services, click on “my Credit ESL SPS
