Armenia Summer 2023

This 2-week program offers a brief overview of Armenian culture, history, art and society through field observation and research. The program includes visits to key artistic and cultural highlights of Yerevan and the surrounding area. A typical day will include field excursions, short lecture discussions and time to relax. There will also be two free days to explore Yerevan independently.
The program will be led by GCC professors Zohara Kaye and Sevada Chamras. They will share their experiences and passion for exploring Armenian culture through travel and direct observation. ALL participants are required to enroll and actively participate in a 2-unit Field Studies course, which encompasses a combined 36 hours of lecture and field activities.

Note: There will be a mandatory pre-departure orientation on a Saturday morning in April 2023.

Prices are based on current exchange rates. Prices may change should there be unexpected changes in foreign exchange rates.
Program Fee Includes:
- 13 nights of accommodation in a tourist-class hotel in central Yerevan based on 2 guests per room.
- Daily breakfast and 3 group dinners.
- Group airport transfers
- Guided tours of Yerevan’s important museums and historical sites including:
- Guided day tours to Dilijan, Garni & Geghard, Areni, Sisian, and Lori Province
Program Fee Does NOT Include:
- Group airfare (estimated at $1,500)
- GCC tuition/fees for the 2-unit Field Studies course
- Mandatory travel insurance (estimated at $100 depending on age and coverage limits)
- Books (if needed)
- Most meals and beverage
- Visas (if needed)
- Covid-19 testing for airlines and country entry requirements
- Spending money
- Personal expenses
- Additional fieldtrips and excursions than those listed
- Anything not specified
- Mandatory travel insurance (estimated $100 depending on coverage limits)
- Once accepted to the program, you will have 7 days to submit payment to the GCC Study Abroad office in AD145. The deposit payment of $400 can be paid by cash, check, VISA or MasterCard. Details will be provided after the interview.
- Coordinate with Prof. Darren Leaver to help organize your flight (not included in the program price).
- The balance of payment for the travel portion of the program will be due by February 24, 2023.
- All payments are non-refundable unless we can find a suitable replacement for your spot from our official waitlist.
- Payment for the courses is separate from the travel costs and will be due at the time of course registration in early May, 2023.
- Space is limited to approximately 22 to 26 student participants, so act quickly.
Note: In January 2023, those enrolling at GCC during the spring 2023 semester will be able to apply for scholarships ranging from $200 to $500.
2-unit Library Field Studies course offered as part of the program may be transferable to the University of California and California State University as an elective. Check with your academic advisor for possible exceptions.

Students are required to complete a formal application. The application includes a character reference, an academic reference and personal information.
Complete applications with the required deposits are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Most participants will be 18 years or older. Accommodations can be made for those under 18 with parental permission and recommendation from a counselor.

A pre-departure conference with each student by the Study Abroad program director must be held. When a concern is raised, an instructor can ask the Study Abroad Director to conduct the conference before a student is admitted to a program.

Students are required to have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and no history of disciplinary action at GCC or any other campus. Exceptions may be granted by the Study Abroad Director.

Students will be notified promptly in writing should they not be accepted into a program.

Program participants will be required to sign the forms “General Release of Liability” and “Assumption of Risk for Participation in Voluntary Activity.”

Students do not need to have a declared major in the classes they are taking abroad and there are no language prerequisite for the programs unless a specific course has its own requirement.
