Jason Marshall is a full-time instructor of physics and astronomy at Glendale Community College. Prior to teaching in front of live audiences at GCC, Jason spent seven years teaching math to a worldwide audience via the Math Dude’s Quick and Dirty Tips podcast. As his Math Dude alter-ego, he also authored the book The Math Dude’s Quick and Dirty Guide to Algebra.
In addition to teaching at GCC, Jason is also an active astronomical researcher studying the structure and evolution of extreme active galaxies from the early universe. As part of this work, he is currently working with his colleagues at Caltech and around the world to develop the CAFE software package for performing spectroscopic modeling and analysis of data being obtained with the James Webb Space Telescope.
Jason obtained an undergraduate degree in astrophysics from UCLA and a Ph.D. in astronomy from Cornell University. Before teaching at GCC, Jason was a postdoctoral scholar at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and staff scientist at Caltech.
