Reengage...Reconnect...Reenergize!
As the start of the fall semester approaches, we are adding more in-person classes. Coupled with an extensive selection of online courses, GCC students have several options to pursue their educational goals at the Verdugo, Garfield and Montrose Campuses. If you have an area that is reengaging in an effective way, please share your story with the Office of Communications and Community Relations at comms@glendale.edu.
The Vaqs are Back in Baja
It’s been nearly three years, but the Baja Program is reengaging students at the field station in the Baja California peninsula in Mexico. Two summer session classes have travelled four hundred miles south of the border to study in one of the most unique environments on Earth. GCC is proud to have offered field classes in Mexico for nearly half a century.

Summer Bridge Kicks Off Academic Year
GCC is the bridge to our students’ futures and summer is the bridge to a successful first year of college. Our colleagues in Student Equity have wrapped up the last of seven week-long Summer Bridge programs to help incoming GCC students with a smooth transition to college. Participants learn about degree and transfer requirements, financial aid, counseling, career exploration, and community building among a host of topics.
Reconnecting Through Biology
One dozen GCC students recently gathered in the Student Center to participate in the Biology 298 undergraduate research poster presentation for the first time since 2019. Led by instructor Shelley Thai, the students shared the results of their summer session research project with visitors who stopped by in person. Click to see photos.

Connecting with...Dr. Brittany Grice
Dr. Brittany Grice joined the GCC family on Monday, July 25, 2022 as the new Vice President of Human Resources.
Brittany is the first subject of a new item we call “Connecting with…” Look for your other co-workers in the coming months.
Why did you choose to work at GCC?
Primarily, the reputation of the college’s culture of collegiality and being demonstrably student-centered in so many facets. Additionally, the opportunity to work on a great HR team and support a leadership philosophy I truly value and believe in.
Proudest Career Accomplishment:
Finally feeling like my professional self again and hitting my stride after returning to work following having my son. There’s so much invisible labor you don’t think about before you become a parent. It took a lot of humility, grace, and a willingness to accept help when it was offered to get there.
Hobbies: Cooking, traveling to new places and just getting outside in general
Favorite movie: Love and Basketball (though I’m much more a TV person and I can’t wait for the new season of Succession)
Favorite book: Fiction: Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid; Nonfiction: Educated by Tara Westover
Favorite food: Xiaolongbao (and all dumplings)
Your perfect day off: Breakfast burritos at the beach, then a boat trip to Santa Cruz Island in Channel Islands National Park to explore for the day with my family, and finally a kid-free dinner on a patio somewhere with live music and wine.
While You Are Away
Facilities update: Due to the current Central Plant #1 project, there is a temporary closure of the Administration Building main entrance staircase that connects with the Verdugo Rd. drop-off zone. Lot B is the preferred temporary drop-off location during the closure. There are also alternate paths to reroute pedestrians around the fencing. The project will expand the capacity of the Central Plant to support the New Science Building.
Though the trench will remain until winter 2023, when the project is tentatively scheduled for completion, the stairway leading to the Verdugo Rd. drop-off area from the Administration Building is expected to reopen next month. For updates on all campus projects go to glendale.edu/campusprojects.
