New President Arrives

When new Superintendent/President Dr. Ryan Cornner arrived for his first day of work on Friday, July 1, a large group of well-wishers literally rolled out the red carpet as they welcomed him to the GCC family. The surprise reception allowed Dr. Cornner to meet some of his new colleagues and to get reacquainted with those he’s already met. Click here to see more photos from that morning. If you missed Dr. Cornner’s message to all employees, you can read it here.

ASGCC’s new president Natalie Dawoodi assumed her role as the student trustee after being sworn in during the Board of Trustees Meeting on Tuesday, June 21, 2022. 18-year old Natalie graduated from Burbank High School in 2021 and will begin her second year at GCC this Fall where she is a double major in Business Administration and Sociology. She was first introduced to GCC via dual enrollment as a high school sophomore. Natalie was impressed with college’s welcoming environment and high transfer rate which led to her making the strategic decision to pursue an Associate degree at GCC. She has participated in student government since attending John Muir Middle School and appreciates the opportunity to represent her fellow GCC students to ensure they are provided a safe environment where everyone has the opportunity to learn and pursue their goals.

Guided Pathways Update

GP @GCC

GCC LPP Success Teams: A Guided Pathways Initiative Project. “Creating a place for every student to belong at GCC.” Over the next three years of Guided Pathways, the Coordinators and Steering Team have committed to focusing on Pillars Three and Four - Staying on the Path and Ensuring Learning. The Coordinators and Steering Team are designing Success Teams, which include counseling and faculty members working together to provide holistic support for students organized around the Learning & Professional Pathways (LPPs). Success Teams will aim to connect to more students across disciplines through their LPPs, creating opportunities for students to bond with their LPP cohorts and well as have more personalized support as they work towards their degrees, certificates, and transfer goals. Increasing student connection to supports they may need, from financial aid to tutoring to basic needs and beyond and increasing their sense of belonging on campus and in their chosen programs, will increase their likelihood of reaching important milestones such as creating a student education plan (SEP), completing transfer level math and English, conferring a degree and/or certificate, and transferring to a four-year or obtaining employment, depending on their longer term goals. Success Teams will be pre-launching in Fall.

Parking Permit Rules

Parking Permit Rules

As GCC gradually reintroduces in-person learning, it’s important to remind everyone of the parking rules that are in effect for the summer session and moving forward. Students must display a valid vehicle parking permit on the Verdugo Campus as well as across the street off campus in the municipal parking lots (Lots 30-34). If a student asks, they can obtain a Summer 2022 Student Parking Permit by contacting the Tuition Office located on the 3rd Floor of the Sierra Vista Building.

GCC employees will also be required to display parking permits in the Fall. Look for more information from College Police in the coming weeks.
