Dr. Ryan Cornner signs contract

GCC’s incoming superintendent/president Dr. Ryan Cornner attended the Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday, April 19 where he officially signed a three-year contract that will take effect July 1, 2022.

The Board selected Dr. Cornner following a nationwide search to replace Dr. David Viar who will retire in June after leading GCC for the last nine years.

Dr. Cornner, who earned his Doctor of Education and Master of Social Work at the University of Southern California, currently serves as Vice Chancellor, Educational Programs & Institutional Effectiveness for the Los Angeles Community College District.

During the meeting, Dr. Cornner introduced his wife, their two children, and his father and step-mother who were in attendance.

“I want to thank everybody for their kind comments about service and family. It’s a testament to how great this relationship is going to be with the campus and working with you all because our values are in such alignment for what we can do for students,” said Dr. Cornner during the meeting.

He noted that the contract signing held special meaning as it took place on April 19, the same date as his wedding anniversary. “I just felt it was a fitting tribute that fourteen years ago today we started our family and today we extend it. And so, I’m very excited to be joining your family and I hope for many years in the future to be a part of it.”

Dr. Cornner will begin his new role on July, 1, 2022.

Education Group Honors Andre Manukyan

Andre ManukyanThe Glendale Educational Foundation (GEF) recently honored GCC’s Andre Manukyan for his commitment to community service and his work at GCC that has touched countless lives. Manukyan received a Diamond Award during a ceremony that honors outstanding alumni from the Glendale Unified School District (GUSD). According to GEF, “When the safer at home orders were issued by the State of California, Andre Manukyan began receiving calls from students and the community about not having enough food. Within days, Andre worked with the Glendale College Foundation to secure funding and launch an emergency grant program to provide grocery store gift cards to those most in need of food. Over 700 families in Glendale were supported by this program."

“I was honored to receive this award, but the work of addressing the basic needs of our students and the community goes beyond any one person.  This recognition would not be possible without the support of the hundreds of my GCC colleagues and community members who volunteered their time and donated to the GCC CARES program,” said Manukyan.
