As teachers, we pride ourselves on planning organized lessons with clear outcomes. But we should also embrace chaos and serendipity as critical thinking and authentic learning flourish in organic, semi-structured spaces. The opportunity to be lost and surprised shouldn’t be squandered for the illusion of safety and control. English instructor, librarian, and Learning Center Coordinator Shant Shahoian will discuss his lifelong celebration of uncertainty and how he incorporates heutagogy into his various roles on campus – and how he will continue to do so in the age of artificial intelligence (AI).
