Canvas

Canvas is the Learning Management System (LMS) used at GCC.  Once your class is visible in PeopleSoft, it should automatically be visible in Canvas.  At a minimum, Canvas is useful for hosting files needed for class or posting your syllabus.  If used to its full extent, Canvas can be used to post videos, construct quizzes, create learning modules, host discussions and chats, provide an entry portal for Zoom, track attendance, post announcements, provide badges to track work progress, grade assignments, take polls, post grades, and much more .

To access Canvas, navigate to www.glendale.edu and select “Canvas” from the options at the top of the page.  When prompted, use your GCC email username and password to log in.  There is additionally a Canvas app available for Android and iOS devices.  Note that you will not be able to log in to Canvas until your GCC email is setup.

You will need to publish your Canvas shell before students will be able to have access to it.  Once in Canvas, select "Dashboard" on the toolbar on the left.  Find your course and select the "Publish" button..

To get familiarized with Canvas, visit the Instructional Support Resources Canvas Shell, which can be accessed anytime within Canvas by selecting "?" in the toolbar on the left.  There you will find the basics of getting started with Canvas (scroll down to "Quicklinks").  You can also find useful information in the Canvas Instructor Guide.   Finally, there is an entire section in the GCC DE Faculty Resource Shell devoted to Canvas.  Just enroll in the shell and then look for the "All Things Canvas" button.

For 24/7 help with Canvas, call 1-833-544-3019.  They can access your Canvas Course in real time while providing help and answering all your questions, so it's a particularly valuable way to get help.

If you'd like to learn more about Canvas, enroll in GCC's Growing with Canvas course.
