Student Resources to Know

Counseling and Other Services

  • Academic Counseling: Students should make sure their academic plans are on track by visiting GCC's Academic Counseling Services. Online appointments are available. Remember, though you can discuss the various courses that students could take next, always make sure to send them to academic counseling to finalize plans.
    • Location: Sierra Vista (SV), Third Floor
    • Phone: 818-240-1000 x5918
  • Transfer Counseling: When students are planning to transfer after GCC, they should contact GCC's Transfer Center to ensure that transfer requirements are being met. Different transfer institutions will have different requirements, so it's important that students get assistance in this area.
  • Career Counseling: If students are wondering what career to choose or what major to choose for a specific career, they should contact GCC's Career Services. A counselor in Career Services can give students career ideas based on strengths and interests and even expose students to new career paths.
  • International Students: International students should visit the International Students Office for help with getting enrolled at GCC, immigration, and navigating resources. Visit the International Students page for more information.

  • EOPS (Extended Opportunity Programs and Services): EOPS is a program designed to help educationally disadvantaged students succeed at GCC. The program reaches a wide range of low-income students who are additionally considered disadvantaged because of at least one other criteria (e.g. first generation college student). Students who qualify should take advantage of EOPS financial assistance and counseling. Visit the EOPS page for more information.

Medical and Mental Health Counseling

Students can visit GCC's Health Center to get and stay healthy. The Health Center offers first aid, OTC medications, flu shots, mental health counseling, relationship counseling, smoking cessation, nutrition information, and more!

In the rare occurrence that a student completely breaks down in class (e.g. can't stop crying uncontrollably), you or another student can walk them to the GCC Health Center for immediate professional help. Enter the Health Center on the southwest corner of the Sierra Nevada (SN) building.

In Noncredit, there is a dedicated Mental Health Counselor who can meet with students. When students have mental health or medical needs, the mental health counselor can provide referrals to outside resources.
