Notes About Personal Necessity and Sick Time
Adjunct faculty members accrue 1 hour of sick/personal necessity leave for every 18 hours worked during the academic year, including short sessions.
Adjunct faculty members can use up to 70% of their semester earning of sick time for personal necessity.
If you a day, a class, or part of a class due to sick leave or personal necessity, be sure to report your absence by calling the GCC Faculty Absence Reporting Line: 818-246-5094 (it's recommended to put this number in your phone now so you have it handy). This recorded line is checked continuously from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. You will be asked to leave the following information:
your name
class name
class time
class room number
special instructions for students, if any (these will be posted on the door)
reason for your absence (they just need to know if it's sick leave or personal necessity - you do not need to give additional details)
If you are going to be absent for an extended time, contact your division chair to arrange a substitute and a plan for reporting your absence.
For more information straight from the source, see Section 3, Article VII of the searchable GCC Guild Contract - look for the "GUILD Contract" box and then "Guild Collective Bargaining Agreement". Once you open the contract, search the word "leaves" to find the correct section.
The totals shown in SharePoint on the "Accrual Balances" table are updated once per year in June, so they my not reflect your current totals.
