Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
Program learning outcomes are defined in terms of the knowledge, skills, and abilities that students have attained as a result of their involvement in a particular program, degree, certificate or series of learning activities leading to mastery.
For Learning Outcomes purposes, the definition of a Program is as follows:
A program is any area that currently conducts Program Review. These areas are directly related to the core competencies, college operations and non-academic services. The following programs/areas have been identified:
- AA-T/AS-T degree
- Degrees Certificated programs
- ALL Programs (cohesive set of courses) vocational and general education
- Divisional/Departmental
- Student Services Learning Outcomes (SSLOs)
- Anyone seeking resources (program review)
- Proposed Programs
The current approval process of PLOs is as follows (Approved September 2016):
Step 1: With use of prior assessments for your program (see definition of a program) identify any inconsistencies or unforeseen variables that warrants a modification, deletion or a new PLO.
Step 2: Contact Yvette Ybarra at yybarra@glendale.edu or extension 3195 to set up a meeting to review any changes of PLOs.
Step 3: Collaborate with faculty in your area to discuss and vote on the modifications, deletions or new PLO.
Step 4: Once the Division or Department has approved the changes the PLO must go through the C&I process.
Programs are required to conduct ongoing cyclical processes every three years, leading to purposeful innovations to improve teaching, learning, and student success. Assessing more than one PLO at a time is strongly recommended.
