College Level Standards

Glendale Community College has established the following institution-set standards.

Current Standards (2023-2024)

1. Course Completion Rate

Standard: 69%

Stretch Goal: 77%

2. Degree Completion

Standard: 1,000 degrees per year

Stretch Goal: 1,200 degrees per year

3. Transfers

Standard: 900 transfers per year

Stretch Goal: 1,200 transfers per year

4. Certificate Completion

Standard: 300 certificates per year

Stretch Goal: 500 certificates per year

History of Revisions to Institution-Set Standards

  • April 4, 2024: GCC Academic Senate voted to revise the success standard from 68% to 69%, the success stretch goal from 75% to 77%, the transfer standard from 1,100 to 900, and the transfer stretch goal from 1,300 to 1,200 
  • May 4, 2023: GCC Academic Senate voted to stop including retention rate as an institution-set standard, as this is not required by the Accrediting Commission
  • April 7, 2022: GCC Academic Senate voted to revise the retention standard from 50% back to 47% due to the recommendations of the Institution-Set Standards Task Force report of Spring 2022 
  • April 22, 2021: GCC Academic Senate voted to revise the standards and stretch goals (course completion standard from 67% to 68%; retention standard from 47% to 50% and stretch goal from 50% to 57%; degree standard from 550 to 1,000 and stretch goal from 900 to 1,200; transfer standard from 850 to 1,100 and stretch goal from 950 to 1,300; certificate standard from 200 to 300 and stretch goal from 225 to 500)
  • February 21, 2019: GCC Academic Senate voted not to adjust any standards
  • March 15, 2018: GCC Academic Senate revised the Degree Completion standard from 500 degrees per year to 550 degrees per year, and the Transfers standard from 800 transfers to 850 transfers
  • May 18, 2017: GCC Academic Senate revised the Degree Completion standard from 350 degrees per year to 500 degrees per year
  • May 31, 2013: Team A approved the initial institution-set standards
  • May 16, 2013: GCC Academic Senate proposed the initial institution-set standards

Previous Standards (2013-2014 through 2016-2017)

  1. Course Completion Rate - 67%
  2. Retention Rate - 47%
  3. Degree Completion - 350 degrees per year [raised to 500 in 2016-2017 and to 550 in 2017-2018]
  4. Transfers - 800 transfers per year [raised to 850 in 2017-2018]
  5. Certificate Completion - 200 certificates per year

These standards, as well as institutional standards, are reported in GCC's Annual Reports to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC).
