The Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Training Program is designed to prepare entry-level practitioners of emergency medical care. The core curriculum is designed to provide the graduate the information and skills necessary to function safely within the legal and ethical framework of the Emergency Medical Services, as established by the State of California (Health and Safety Code, Division 2.5, Title 22). Program graduates are eligible to apply and test for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician-Basic certifying examination.

Upon successful completion of the Program and National Registry certifying examination, advanced placement opportunities exist as multiple pathways to provide access to goal attainment and achievement of individual potential. These pathways are designed to make available to the student the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to serve as foundation for success and excellence in pre-hospital emergency care and medicine.

It is the goal of the faculty and staff to promote the development of graduates who are committed to continuing their education and who are positive asset to the discipline of pre-hospital emergency care and medicine, the communities which they serve, and society as a whole.

In pursuit of these purposes, the faculty and staff consistently endeavors, throughout all program pathways, to:

• Participate in the process of counseling and assisting perspective students in admission to the program.
• Maintain uniformity of discipline, teaching methodologies, and general administration of course content that is consistent with those standards that foster academic achievement.
• Provide students with assistance to promote success.
• Provide and maintain an integrated, current, and consistent curriculum that meets the needs of the student, Program graduate, faculty and staff, patient(s), and other members of the heath care team.
• Maintain Program policies and protocols that promote student expression and continuous participation in the Program and Program governance.
• Produce graduates who attain certification, and consistently demonstrate entry-level competence and compassion upon initial employment.
• Remain current as faculty and staff in the specialty of pre-hospital and emergency medicine, community issues, technological advances, and educational theory.
• Foster in the student and the graduate commitment to excellence in clinical practice, continued learning, and consistent high standards of care to all groups.
