Would your like to get a head start on their BSN? Cal State Fullerton’s School of Nursing offers the opportunity to take BSN courses while enrolled in an ADN program. GCC is one of their partner community colleges! During summer semesters, Cal State Fullerton will offer select RN-BSN courses specifically for ADN students wanting to get started on a BSN.
To be eligible to take a summer BSN course(s), students must meet the following criteria:
- Currently enrolled (in good standing) in the ADN program at one of CSUF’s partner community colleges.
- Completed at least 1 semester of an ADN program
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Completed the nursing prerequisites for the RN-BSN program at CSUF which include achieving a C or better in the following college level courses:
- Human Anatomy, with lab
- Human Physiology, with lab
- Microbiology, with lab
- Chemistry (intro or general is acceptable)
- Statistics (CSU B4 certified course or CSUF Nursing approved course)
In Summer 2015, Cal State Fullerton will be offering two courses: NURS 305 Professional Nursing (4 units), and NURS 310 Nursing Research/Evidence Based Practice (3 units). In NURS 305, the professional nursing role is examined including nursing theory and research, ethics theory, communication theory and principles, and the nursing process. Theories and concepts of health and techniques in health promotion are presented from a holistic framework. In NURS 310, emphasis is placed on the development of nursing knowledge for the improvement of nursing outcomes. Research methods are explored and current issues are analyzed in relation to the implementation of evidence-based professional nursing practice in selected settings.
Enrollment in summer BSN courses will guarantee admission into their RN-BSN program, as long as the student submits a complete application and maintains a GPA of 2.75 or higher.
Cal State Fullerton will be emailing our GCC Nursing Program the application packets in February and students will need to submit the application by May 1st. Classes will begin on June 1st and students will need to attend a mandatory orientation that day from 8am-1pm. We hope you will consider this opportunity to jump start their BSN!
