California State University, Los Angeles, School of Nursing (CSULA SON) is collaborating with area community colleges to create a seamless transition from the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) to the Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. This collaboration will help California achieve the national goal of 80 per cent BSN level or higher nurses in the workforce by 2020. Accepted students into this program will have completed pre-requisite courses at their respective community colleges and gained a solid foundation in nursing, enabling them to pass the NCLEX-RN exam and complete the ADN degree. The curriculum of the ADN- BSN degree builds on this strong foundation with post-licensure content completed at CSULA in Research, Theory, Leadership, Case Management, and Community/Public Health. CSULA SON is committed to AB 1295 which prescribes an articulated nursing pathway to the BSN, no replication of nursing prerequisites or content taken at the community college, attainment of the BSN degree one year post ADN, and sustainability. The California Collaborative Model for Nursing Education (CCME) which includes dual enrollment and shared faculty is also a tenet of this collaborative effort. The ADN student who is successfully admitted to this program will commit to completing the BSN degree at CSULA SON. Although courses may be taken during Summers of the ADN program at CSULA, final admission to the BSN program for the last year, will depend on a competitive grade point, GE certification and successful passage of the NCLEX examination.

An ADN degree does not guarantee admission to the final year. Students beginning the final year at CSULA must have a 3.0 grade point average in all of their course work to that point, have passed the NCLEX, and be GE certified. If demand exceeds capacity, other admission criteria may be put in place.
