SLAM - Quantitative Reasoning

The SLAM-Quantitative Reasoning pathway is ideal for students majoring in the Liberal Arts. If you are unsure if you will need to take a specific math course for your major or educational objective, please check with a counselor. Math 111 College Algebra for Business & Liberal Arts

Math 111 College Algebra for Business and Liberal Arts is a transfer-level course that provides students with the necessary algebra skills to succeed in Math 112 Calculus for Business. This course is also ideal for Liberal Arts majors that want a less language intensive math course. Students explore mathematical topics pertinent to business, finance, and the liberal arts. These topics include functions and their inverses, transformations of functions, solving equations and inequalities, logarithmic and exponential equations, applications in finance, complex numbers, systems of equations, and graphs of linear, quadratic, polynomial, exponential, and logarithmic functions.

Math 134 Decision Mathematics

MATH 134 is a transfer-level course in quantitative reasoning about decisions. Students learn mathematical techniques including solving algebraic equations and inequalities, Cartesian graphs, probability, and game theory to analyze individual and group decision-making under the conditions of certainty, risk, and uncertainty. Students not only learn these techniques, but also interpret and communicate their results.

Math 135 Mathematical Ideas

MATH 135 is a transfer-level course designed for SLAM majors that do not require MATH 136 or MATH 138. Topics in this course include units and unit conversion, proportional reasoning, probability, descriptive statistics, basic probability, financial mathematics, apportionment, and voting theory. Emphasis is placed on the application of these concepts to real world data, development of quantitative reasoning, and the interpretation of results. A spreadsheet software will be used as an exploration tool.
