Dr. Tara Pixley is a queer, Jamaican-American photojournalist and Assistant Professor of Journalism at Temple University. Her photography, which reimagines race, gender, and LGBTQ+ and immigrant communities through a liberation lens, has appeared in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, NPR, Newsweek, Allure, ProPublica, and ESPN, among many others. She’s coming
to GCC to discuss Big Oil and environmental injustice in LA.

Harsh Sentencing: Children Behind Bars?
LECTURE WITH ROBUST Q&A DISCUSSION

Lisa Armstrong, Professor of Journalism at UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, is an award-winning journalist with credits in The Intercept, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Mother Jones, USA TODAY, and other outlets. She has reported from several countries, including Sierra Leone, Kenya, and the Philippines, and reported from Haiti from 2010 to 2014. She is currently reporting on incarceration, including COVID-19 in New York State prisons and Miami jails. Armstrong also produced a documentary for CBS News about the role that for-profit-provided mental health care has played in the increase of suicides in state prisons.

Pulitzer Center Information Session

You are warmly invited to join us for a special info session featuring a Pulitzer Center representative to learn about how to apply for a reporting grant. 

Students, staff and faculty will specifically learn about gender reporting and international journalism opportunities during this event. Our 2023 Research Fellow, Brittany Klintworth, will also be on hand to answer questions.

Ms. Klintworth recently traveled to Italy, where her focus was the intersection of feminism and fast fashion. You can read her work here.
