Summer Bridge is designed to help incoming GCC students with a successful and smooth transition into college. Summer Bridge familiarizes students with important campus resources, helps with course planning and scheduling, informs students about transfer options and degree requirements, and students explore time management and study skills strategies to help them succeed at GCC. Summer Bridge is the first step in identifying interests and constructing major and career goals, as well as starting the college journey with guidance, support, and tools to help accomplish your goals.
Summer Bridge also provides the opportunity for participants to connect with current GCC students. SPARK Peer Mentors are current GCC students that are a part of the Summer Bridge experience. They share their experiences, insights, and tips with students by facilitating various activities throughout the week.
Students joining Promise+ are required to complete Summer Bridge by enrolling in one of the courses.
Summer Bridge is a fun and interactive way to learn about GCC, get prepared for your first semester of college, and get connected with peers, faculty, and staff.
Summer Bridge offers two courses through which students can get oriented to college:
Student Development 101 – College Success Strategies
This course is dedicated to ensuring students’ college success and motivating students to explore their options for college. It helps students identify and define their short and long term goals. Topics also include time management and study skills, campus resources, growth mindset, financial literacy, degree and transfer options, and much more. Recommended for new, incoming students and those that are returning and need a refresher on college orientation. SD 101 is a fun and interactive class to help you get a head start to college.
Student Development 120 – Transfer Orientation
This course is dedicated to ensuring students understand the transfer process, requirements, options, and preparation needed while at GCC. Topics include transfer admission and academic requirements, transfer application processes, and various programs and services at universities. Recommended for students who have completed Student Development 101 and/or have enough knowledge of their goals and are ready to explore transfer options and requirements.
