Federal Direct Loan Program Policy and Application Procedures

Glendale Community College (GCC) is committed to assisting students in attaining their educational goals. For many students, financial assistance is crucial to such a pursuit. In addition to the California College Promise Grant (CCPG), formerly known as the BOG enrollment fee waiver, federal grant and work programs offered, GCC participates in the Federal Direct Loan Program. This program includes Federal Stafford student loans and Federal PLUS parent loans. These instructions outline the loan policy at GCC as well as the procedures you must follow to apply for a loan.
9 EASY STEPS TO RECEIVING A LOAN AT GLENDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE
  1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the aid year you are going to apply for a student loan.

  2. Be and stay enrolled in at least 6 units (half-time enrollment), per semester, at the time of disbursement. If on a Financial Aid Contract, you must be in 6+ FA contract units to be eligible.

  3. Complete and submit any/all documents requested by the Financial Aid Office.

  4. Sign up for and attend an entrance loan workshop by contacting the Financial Aid Office. (In lieu of an in-person entrance workshop you received an email that included this document and all other entrance materials). Information you receive will help you determine your need for a loan. Also, you can go to http://www.studentaid.gov on the internet to assist in your decision.

  5. Once you have been awarded your OTHER Financial Aid (i.e. Federal Pell, FSEOG, FWS, scholarships, etc…) (Monitor your GCC email and MyGCC account to see when your financial aid file has been awarded) contact the financial aid office (email or “Request a Call back”) to inquire about the Federal Direct Loan Program.  Eligible students will receive an email outlining the instructions of the loan policy at GCC, as well as the procedures you must follow to apply for a federal student loan.

    The following documents will be required for submission through https://glendale.studentforms.com Loan Request Form;

    1. Clear copy, front and back, of Valid Driver’s License or other valid government issued ID.  Expired valid ID’s will be rejected and may delay the process.
    2. A copy of your loan summary from Studentaid.gov.  You must submit a copy of your loan summary each time you borrow a federal student loan regardless if you have a previous loan balance or not.
  6. Complete your Master Promissory Note AND Entrance Counseling on-line, at www.studentaid.gov.

  7. The entire process from the time you submit your loan documents will take approximately 3-4 WEEKS. Please be patient.

  8. Your loan monies will be sent to you by the Tuition Office, via BankMobile - https://www.glendale.edu/financial-aid-fees/financial-aid/get-started/bankmobile-disbursements

  9. Participate in some form of Exit counseling in the Spring/Summer time period. I will notify you at the end of the aid year (sometime in Spring) as to what you will need to complete for the Exit counseling portion.
