A course may be repeated once only when the grade received was substandard (“D”,”F”, or “NC”). After completion of a repeated course, students should request to have the Course Repetition Policy applied to their academic records. Only the most recently earned grade and grade points shall be used, and the cumulative totals be adjusted accordingly. Nevertheless, the original grade on the academic record shall not be changed or eradicated. 

When a class was taken at an institution other than Glendale Community College, students are required to submit a course description from the other college’s catalog and an official transcript showing successful completion of the course.

The college policy for the maximum number of units per semester is 19. The maximum number of units per winter is 8. The maximum number of units per summer session is 10.

Students wishing to take more than 19 units during a semester or more than 8 units during a winter or 10 units during a summer session must obtain approval from the Director of Admissions & Records by submitting a Unit Overload form.

The Associate degree will be granted to a student who files a Petition for Graduation in the Office of Admissions and Records; who is not on academic probation; and who has completed a minimum of 12 of the last 18 semester units of the required college curriculum of 60 degree applicable semester units at Glendale Community College.

All official transcripts from other colleges and universities must be on file in the Office of Admissions and Records before the student submits a Petition for Graduation. If a transcript is from out of state, and a transcript evaluation request was not completed, course descriptions must be included with the Petition for Graduation Evaluation. 

Before submitting the form to the Admissions and Records office, the student is advised to see a counselor in order to verify the following: 

• Eligibility for graduation
• Glendale Community College offers the major or certificate program that the student is requesting.

At GCC, a student is allowed to petition for one Associate in Arts or Associate in Arts for Transfer degree (AA or AA-T) and one Associate in Science or Associate in Science for Transfer degree (AS or AS-T) for a total of two Associate degrees.

During your first semester at Glendale Community College, you need to make an appointment with a counselor to have a Student Educational Plan (SEP) prepared. An SEP is an outline of all your general education, major, prerequisite and elective classes related to your personal educational goal, as well as the graduation requirements. Once a counselor completed your SEP you will be able to view your SEP in you’re My Planner in your MyGCC. Take advantage of the Career Center to assist you in selecting a career goal or major if you are undecided.

Prior to requesting an evaluation of your courses taken at other colleges and universities, all official transcripts must be on file in the Office of Admissions & Records. You must provide course descriptions (for year courses were taken) from all out-of-state institutions, and all private schools within California. In addition, you must include course outlines (syllabi) for all English, math, and speech courses from out-of-state and private schools within California. You must have an educational goal of (1) earning a certificate from GCC; (2) earning an associate degree from GCC; and/or (3) transferring to a campus of the UC or CSU.

1. You must be currently enrolled at the time your counselor submits your Transcript Evaluation Request Form to the Admissions and Records office 
2. You must have official copies of all transcripts on file with the Office of Admissions and Records 
3. Catalog course descriptions (from the year the course were taken) must be provided for all courses taken at a private institution or outside of the State of California 
4. Course from colleges or universities in foreign countries cannot be used for IGETC, or CSUBreadth. Copies of transcripts from the Credential Evaluations Services must be on file at GCC prior to submitting the evaluation request. Please check with the Admissions & Records office regarding the evaluation services accepted at GCC. 
5. You must have an educational goal that includes one or more of the following: (a) obtaining a certificate of achievement; (b) completing an associate degree from GCC or (c) transferring to a campus of the California State University or University of California. 
6. Once you receive the completed evaluation form in the mail, make a follow up appointment with your counselor to complete you evaluation with a student education plan.
