One standard measure of faculty workload is defined as Weekly Student Contact Hours (WSCH) divided by Full-Time Equivalent Faculty (FTEF). The table shows WSCH per FTEF by division for Fall and Spring semesters only.

Notes

1. WSCH data includes enrollments in classes with weekly, daily, and positive attendance accounting methods, not just weekly classes. FTES data are converted to WSCH.

2. Health Sciences FTEF data do not include clinical sessions taught by adjunct instructors. This exclusion underestimates the division's FTEF and overestimates WSCH per FTEF.

The California Code of Regulations Title 5 Section 51025 requires community college districts to adjust the number of full-time faculty in proportion to the amount of growth in funded credit FTES. The Chancellor's Office establishes a Faculty Obligation Number (FON) for each district. This number defines the required number of full-time faculty members working in the district.
