Family Engagement
As a PITC Demonstration Site and NAEYC accredited center, we focus on relationships. Relationships between the children, the children and caregivers, the caregivers and the families and the families with each other. Research shows that when families are strong, children flourish. We have adopted Strengthening Families: A Protective Factors Framework at the center to ensure that we are meeting not just the needs of the children in our care, but also the families. We do this by providing workshops and informational meetings for families led by professionals in the field of child development, hosting Parent Cafes where parents create social connections and form a support system with other parents, and planning with our parent group (PAGe) events and activities for children and families to connect with each other and the community, and maintaining resource lists and providing brochures to families in need of support with a variety of challenges.
The Five Protective Factors:
- Parental Resilience
- Social Connections
- Knowledge of Parenting and Child Development
- Concrete Support in Times of Need
- Social and Emotional Competence of Children
(from the Center for the Study of Social Policy)
PAGe is the Child Development Center's parent run group. Meetings are held every second Thursday of the month from 5pm-6pm. This group's mission is to support the Center with decision making, event planning and fundraising for projects large and small.
Families are required to complete 25 volunteer hours each year. These hours can be completed by attending PAGe meetings, volunteering at events, chaperoning field trips, donating goods or services, volunteering in the children's classrooms, or holding a position such as Co-Chair, Event Chair, Room Parent, Secretary or Parent Hours Chair.
Research shows that when families and schools are connected, children flourish. PAGe sets the stage for taking an active role in your child's education from an early age. Get involved!
