A. Think about your goals. What do you want as a career? What types of activities do you enjoy?
You don’t have to know exactly what you want to do, but the more ideas have the the easier it will be easier for counselors to help you figure out your pathway.
B. Know the difference between Certificates, AA and AS-T Degrees
Certifications are a good place to start a plan if you aren't sure what you want to do, since most credits in our cert are similar to those required for an AA-T and many will transfer. The Media Arts Department offers one certificate in Cinematography and Editing.
Associates of Arts Degree (AAs) are stand-alone degrees that our department designed for solid base level skills in film and video production. Like certifications, they can help raise pay if you are already working in a field. They are not designed to maximize transfer classes but many classes will transfer to many 4-year institutions including UCs and private institutions.
Associates of Science Degree for Transfer (AS-T) is an agreement with California State Universities that state that, if students take all the classes in a AS-T major, plus fulfill the General Education requirements, they are guaranteed entry into a certain Cal State Universities with a grade point average.
FYI: you don’t need to get ANY degree or certificate to transfer to a 4 year university or college, as long as you have the appropriate units, and many of your classes will still articulate.
C. Look over the Film, Television and Media Arts Suggested Sequence of Classes and Compare Our Degrees.
