Music 148 Chamber Music (1.0 Unit)

This chamber ensemble consists of cellist who perform classical repertoire for cello.
Music 148 Chamber Music (1.0 Unit)
Chamber Music at Glendale College consists of small groups of two to four players, in various combinations of instruments. Students study music from all style periods and learn the techniques of playing in a small, unconducted ensemble with an experienced instructor from the music department.
Rehearsals: held at various times throughout the week, based the schedules of the students and their instructor. Ensembles rehearse for two hours each week in the Auditorium Building at the college.
Performances: Every semester, Chamber Music ensembles perform a recital for each other and the public. Additional performances are scheduled as appropriate for each group.
Experienced instrumentalists are welcome. Ensembles are newly formed each semester. For more information, please contact Dr. Paul Sherman ext. 5621.

This chamber ensemble is a small group of guitarists who perform a variety of guitar repertoire such as jazz and classical.
Music 143 Jazz Band (1.0 Unit)
The GCC Jazz Band is a large performance ensemble that performs jazz repertoire from all eras of the jazz tradition. There are playing opportunities every semester for trumpets, trombones, and saxophones, as well as piano, guitar, bass, drums, and percussion.

The GCC Music Department has many jazz combos that rehearse and perform every semester. There is usually a beginning, intermediate, and and advanced ensemble every semester. Each combo consists of a rhythm section and one or more lead instruments. There are performance opportunities available for all levels and instruments. Current combos rehearse on Thursday nights (beginning combo) and Saturday mornings (intermediate and advanced combos).

In this ensemble, the musician can expect to learn vocal and western instruments of traditional ragas of North indian Music to navigate their complex rhythmic cycles and syncopations.

The Glendale College Community Orchestra is made up of auditioned instrumentalists throughout Los Angeles County and matriculating students from GCC's music department. Our instrumentalists are exposed to a wide variety of repertoire while striving to rehearse and perform with proper technique and expressive musical intent. The learning outcomes for our instrumentalists consist of accurate preparation and successful performances of orchestral literature as a part of a section, sight reading improvement, and use of appropriate musical terminology and performance techniques. We encourage anyone who is interested in joining the GCC Orchestra to contact psherman@glendale.edu for any further information or questions they may have.

Concert Singers is the advanced choral group at Glendale College, made up of a combination of auditioned students and community members. We perform two main concerts per year, one in December and one in June. The repertoire includes, classical choral compositions as well as showcasing many contemporary choral composers.
Concert Singers has also performed at many exciting venues for Video Games Live, such as the Nokia Theater, Verizon Theatre, and San Diego Convention Center for Comic-Con. Other performance venues include the Ford Amphitheater with Kayamanan Ng (Los Angeles based Filipino dance group) and Forest Lawn in Hollywood Hills as well as Glendale. More recently, Concert Singers collaborated with American Idol finalist, Anthony Fedorov, in recording and making a music video for "Enough is Enough."

Performances: The ensemble performs at least one concert of opera scenes per semester.
The Opera Workshop Ensemble features training and performance experience in opera. Performers will learn about basic opera repertoire while developing their voices. In addition to singing, the ensemble covers staging, stage deportment, and acting techniques.

Auditions: Take place the first week of classes.
The GCC Vocal Jazz Ensemble is a small group of auditioned singers. Singers in the ensemble perform vocal jazz standards, broadway, and pop repertoire. They perform regularly on campus as well as in the surrounding community while also traveling and participating in vocal jazz festivals. The group uses on state of the art Shure digital wireless microphones mixed through a Yamaha QL-5 Dante based mixer. They also use one or more student live sound engineers every semester!
