DR. OLUBUNMI M. OGUNTOLU is a scholar and practitioner in creative marketing, production,
research, and development in film and television. Her research methodologies encompass
Black studies, genre theory, world literature(s), fantasy and science fiction film
and television, and theories of race, sexuality, and gender in comics. In her academic
work, Dr. Oguntolu has taught film, television, literature, writing, business, and
communication classes. She enjoys teaching specialized courses on race, ethnicity,
gender, science fiction, mystery, comics, narrative, literacy, Gothic, music image,
and identity through multiple genres and global perspectives. Along with her academic
work, Dr. Oguntolu has performed in several dance and musical theatre showcases for
university productions, belting compilations from Gershwin, Porter, Sondheim, Ellington,
and Kander and Ebb. While working behind the scenes, Dr. Oguntolu serves as a researcher
and creative marketing coordinator for non-scripted television and special-feature
film productions. Through both her scholarship and practice, Dr. Oguntolu strives

CORTNEY LEE COLVIG is a Los Angeles-based cinematographer, assistant camera, actor,
and writer. She began her professional career as a child actor, appearing on the Disney
Channel and other platforms, before shifting her focus to camera and visual production.
Since 2018, she has worked in the camera department as an assistant camera, and in
2022 she began working as a cinematographer. She holds a Master's degree in Production
with a specialization in Cinematography from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and
Television. As lifelong martial artist, equestrian, and artist, Cortney brings a disciplined,
embodied approach to visual storytelling and education.

FTVM 103: Emerging Global Cinema

FTVM 103 examines contemporary emerging international film movements. Looking outside
the boundaries of the Hollywood system, this class analyzes global cinema with a focus
on auteur filmmakers who have helped to define their nation’s film identity. The course
provides critical methodology and practical tools for examining and interpreting the
connection between the artist and their work as a reflection of their specific environment.
FTVM 108: Documentary Film Aesthetics

FTVM 108 explores how the style, look, and structure of documentary films affect considerations
of ethics, point of view, and persuasion. Topics of study include the voice of documentary,
documentary modes, the influence of social media, cultural and national representation
in documentary, and the evolution of digital technology in the context of nonfiction.
Students will watch a wide variety of documentaries that examine the concept of “truth”
on film and the filmmaker’s ability to distort or clarify our perception of reality.
*Both classes are transferable and meet requirements for Cal-GETC!

Introduction to TV Studio Production

Geri Ulrey is the head of the Film, Television and Media Arts Department at Glendale
Community College as well as a writer and director. Her narrative short films have
screened at numerous film festivals worldwide, winning awards along the way. She recently
completed the short film “to the flame” starring Deanna Noe. Geri holds an MFA in
film directing and production from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television
and a BA in drama from Vassar College.

Master Classes are short or intensive classes that augment or expand our regular curriculum.
Often they are specific to subject area and often intensive information equipment
operations or advancing an area of craft.
It depends on the class or type of workshop. Some are open to the public some are
only available to students who have a class that provides the basic knowledge necessary
to further learn that equipment or technology. So read the instructions of the individual
opportunity to see if you are eligible.
Advisement are information sessions focusing on answering student questions about
our curriculum; suggested sequence of classes, certificates and degrees and transfer
to four-year colleges. Anyone enrolled in classes, or thinking about enrolling in
classes at GCC is welcome to attend an advisement.
