For many people, gender identity is very important. Not everyone identifies with the gender assigned to them at birth nor would everyone feel comfortable rooming with someone of the opposite gender identity. Therefore, many colleges offer gender-inclusive housing in which students can have roommates of any gender. Campus Pride reports that over 250 colleges offer gender-inclusive housing.
